Getting Started

When I first started my own business I came across what I continue to believe are some very wise words.  I read that you learn more from your mistakes than from your successes, but that one lifetime is not long enough to make all the mistakes you need to make in order to learn how to become successful.  You need to learn from other people!  I read that this notion is the basis of most individual business success. Successful businessmen and women may be born with an aptitude but still need to be shown the skills.
 

Every Medallist Has A Coach

Taking this on board I started out by spending several thousand pounds to be shown how to get started at being what I wanted to be, and to be supported in doing so.  Part of the deal was a personal 'mentor' who helped me enormously in the early days.
Later I came across a business expert whose advice seemed – and proved – to be both revolutionary and highly successful.  He had built a multi-million pound business by applying what he was now sharing, so I started paying him several hundred pounds a year to receive regular 'portions' of his advice.  I still do so to this day!
My next step was to spend several more thousands (which I'd earned by applying the earlier advice) to join the coaching programme of another business expert – again one who had applied his thoughts to his own business and been highly successful at it.  I continued to receive his advice during three years, which complemented all the other things I'd picked up.  In fact he was the one who planted the seeds of what has become the Selling Without Selling Programme.

When I first started my own business I came across what I continue to believe are some very wise words. I read that you learn more from your mistakes than from your successes, but that one lifetime is not long enough to make all the mistakes you need to make in order to learn how to become successful. You need to learn from other people!
I read that this notion is the basis of most individual business success. Successful businessmen and women may be born with an aptitude but still need to be shown the skills.

Every Medallist Has A Coach

Taking this on board I started out by spending several thousand pounds to be shown how to get started at being what I wanted to be, and to be supported in doing so. Part of the deal was a personal 'mentor' who helped me enormously in the early days.
Later I came across a business expert whose advice seemed – and proved – to be both revolutionary and highly successful. He had built a multi-million pound business by applying what he was now sharing, so I started paying him several hundred pounds a year to receive regular 'portions' of his advice. I still do so to this day!
My next step was to spend several more thousands (which I'd earned by applying the earlier advice) to join the coaching programme of another business expert – again one who had applied his thoughts to his own business and been highly successful at it.
I continued to receive his advice during three years, which complemented all the other things I'd picked up. In fact he was the one who planted the seeds of what has become the Selling Without Selling Programme.

In all this time I was learning by doing, testing things in my own business and suggesting ideas to my customers then observing which worked better than others, even if this was in someone else's particular set of circumstances. I was not amazed either to discover that all my coaches had themselves had their own coaches and continued to share ideas with them.
During all this time I had also been gaining greatly from some highly targeted purchases of business books, many recommended by my coaches and mentors. Plus I was going to talks by business experts and meeting other business people, not just seeking customers and referrals but to absorb more of their wisdom and to get my questions answered. I also experienced the power of mastermind groups, or 'boardrooms', where your peers offer suggestions to resolve your problems, and you reciprocate.
You need to be doing something similar. You cannot afford to be complacent. You'll never know all there is to know about your specialist subject, or about Sales and Marketing. It's vital that you undertake copious amounts of Continuing Professional Development.
